Fleep, while you may not have been affected by the year of restrictions, and more importantly, the failure of LL to clarify the restrictions, many of my readers have been and have particularly commented on this failure to clarify their policies. It is my readers that have referred to this failure as passive aggressive. They have spoken strongly about LL's behavior as being 'avoidant, negative, and deceptive'.

I am also very aware of the scramble LL has done to stay on top of their rapid growth. Yet it is in this scramble that I think some of the problems become more apparent.

In a more recent post, Does Philip Linden need a Colgate Smile? http://www.orient-lodge.com/node/2750
I expand upon this by reflecting on what I believe is necessary for a successful platform. This includes not only a more reliable technology, which is a thing that I believe Philip is well prepared to focus on, but also a much deeper understanding and nurturing of community and a much fuller understanding and supporting of a reliable currency.

Mitch made comments in this direction, see my coverage Mitch Kapor speaks about Second Life from Davos, http://www.orient-lodge.com/node/2755
but I am not seeing any real movement by LL to properly address these issues.

This is part of the reason I'm so interested in the developments at Central Grid, as outlined in the Reuters article, OpenSim worlds lure Second Life’s outcasts,
http://secondlife.reuters.com/stories/2008/01/25/opensim-worlds-lure-second-lifes-outcasts/

The folks at Central Grid appear highly committed to addressing these issues that LL appears to be avoiding.

I should note that all of this does nothing to diminish my loyalty. I have great respect for LL and especially for Mitch Kapor. If anyone can get it right, Mitch can. It is because of this loyalty that I bring up my criticisms and the criticisms I'm hearing from residents, in hopes of nudging LL in a direction that will help them fully realize the potential of Second Life, instead of simply getting a ticket to play in the next round.
